About this Spain & Portugal trip
This is the Iberian highlight reel, travelled mostly by fast train. You start with Gaudí in Barcelona, take the AVE high-speed train to Madrid for the Royal Palace and the Prado, then head south into Andalusia for the Moorish palaces of the Alhambra and the orange-tree squares of Seville, with a flamenco show along the way. A short flight takes you to Lisbon, where yellow trams climb the hills, and the trip ends among the fairy-tale palaces of Sintra. Expect late dinners, long sunny afternoons and some of the best architecture in Europe.
Sagrada Família, Madrid's Gran Vía, the Alhambra in Granada, Seville's Plaza de España, then Lisbon and the palaces of Sintra.

Frequently asked questions
Which visa do I need?
A single Schengen visa covers both Spain and Portugal. Because most nights are in Spain, you apply through the Spanish visa centre (BLS). We prepare the full document set; apply 6–8 weeks before travel.
Why are the Alhambra and Sagrada Família tickets so important?
Both run on strictly timed entry and sell out weeks ahead in spring and autumn. We book them as soon as you confirm, which is why we recommend booking at least 45 days in advance.
Is the food vegetarian-friendly?
Spanish cooking uses a lot of ham and seafood, but tapas bars always have patatas bravas, tortilla, pimientos and salads. Barcelona, Madrid and Lisbon have plenty of Indian restaurants.
What time do people eat dinner in Spain?
Late. Many restaurants only open for dinner at 8:30–9 pm. Tapas bars serve food earlier if you prefer.
Is this good for a honeymoon?
Yes. Seville and Sintra are especially romantic. We can add a sunset sailing in Barcelona or a rooftop dinner in Lisbon.
