About this Mahakaleshwar & Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga trip
Ujjain's Mahakaleshwar is the only south-facing Jyotirlinga and the only one where the dawn Bhasma Aarti is performed, while Omkareshwar sits on an Om-shaped island in the Narmada. This package from Indore covers both comfortably. In Ujjain you walk the Mahakal Lok corridor, attend the Shipra aarti at Ram Ghat and, if your Bhasma Aarti booking is allotted, witness the 4 am ritual. You also visit Kal Bhairav, Harsiddhi Shakti Peeth, Mangalnath and Sandipani Ashram where Krishna studied. Omkareshwar includes darshan at both Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar and a boat ride around the island. On the way back to Indore you stop at Maheshwar, Ahilyabai Holkar's riverside capital, for its fort, ghats and handloom sarees.
Mahakal Lok and Bhasma Aarti in Ujjain, Omkareshwar on its Narmada island, and Ahilyabai's Maheshwar.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Bhasma Aarti guaranteed?
No. The Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee allots a limited number of Bhasma Aarti slots online, usually around a month in advance. We apply on your behalf, but allotment isn't guaranteed — especially in Shravan and on festival days. Chalit (moving) viewing without a booking is sometimes allowed.
Is there a dress code?
For the Bhasma Aarti, men must wear a dhoti and women a saree. For general darshan, modest Indian wear is recommended.
Can we touch the Jyotirlinga?
Garbhagriha access at Mahakaleshwar and Omkareshwar is restricted on most days because of the crowds, and the rules change often. Most devotees take darshan from the barricade.
How much walking is involved?
Moderate. The Mahakal Lok corridor and the queue complex involve 1–2 km of walking. Omkareshwar involves crossing a footbridge and climbing some steps. Wheelchairs are available at Mahakaleshwar.
Can we add Mandu or Indore sightseeing?
Yes. Mandu can be added as an extra day from Maheshwar, and Indore's Rajwada and Khajrana Ganesh temple fit easily into a half day.
