About this Sundarbans trip
The Sundarbans is the world's largest mangrove delta, where the Ganga, Brahmaputra and Meghna split into hundreds of tidal creeks before reaching the Bay of Bengal. It's home to around 100 Royal Bengal tigers on the Indian side, as well as saltwater crocodiles, spotted deer and more than 250 bird species. You'll drive from Kolkata to the Godkhali jetty, board a private boat, and stay two nights at an eco-lodge on the edge of the reserve. Days are spent cruising the creeks and climbing the watchtowers at Sajnekhali, Sudhanyakhali and Dobanki. Tiger sightings are rare, but the mangroves themselves are the experience.
Two nights in a Sundarbans eco-lodge with full-day boat safaris to the watchtowers, village walks and Bonbibi folk theatre.

Frequently asked questions
Will we see a tiger?
Honestly, probably not. Tigers here are elusive and the forest is dense. Sightings happen on only a small share of trips. You'll almost certainly see deer, crocodiles, monitor lizards and plenty of birds.
Do we get off the boat in the forest?
No, only at fenced watchtower complexes. Walking in the core forest isn't permitted for safety reasons.
Is it safe to stay overnight?
Yes. The lodges are in fenced villages outside the tiger habitat, and boats don't run after dark.
Do foreign nationals need a different permit?
Yes. Foreign nationals pay higher fees and need passport details for the permit. Please send us a passport copy at least a week before travel.
Is it suitable for children and seniors?
Yes. Most of the trip is spent seated on the boat. Watchtowers involve a few flights of stairs.
