About this Rann Utsav, Kutch trip
Every winter the Great Rann of Kutch dries into a vast, cracked plain of white salt, and Gujarat Tourism's Rann Utsav sets up a Tent City at Dhordo village on its edge. This trip gives you two nights in a festival tent with folk music, Kutchi food and cultural evenings, sunset and moonrise on the White Rann, and camel-cart rides across the salt. You'll drive up Kalo Dungar, the highest point in Kutch, for views across to the horizon, visit the craft villages of Hodka, Bhirandiyara and Bhujodi for embroidery, bell metal and weaving, and explore Bhuj's Aina Mahal, Prag Mahal and the Smritivan earthquake memorial.

Frequently asked questions
When is Rann Utsav held?
Gujarat Tourism usually runs it from around November to February. Exact dates are announced each year — we confirm Tent City availability before taking payment.
Is the White Rann really white?
From about November, once the monsoon water evaporates, yes. Early in the season some areas can still be wet or muddy; by December it's at its whitest.
Why is a permit needed?
The Rann is close to the international border. Permits are issued at Bhirandiyara checkpost or online, and we arrange them using your ID details.
What food is served?
Tent City serves vegetarian Gujarati and Kutchi buffets. Non-vegetarian food and alcohol are not served — Gujarat has prohibition.
Is it good for seniors?
Yes. Tents have attached bathrooms, and battery carts and camel carts cover the distances on the salt.
