Mahabaleshwar and Lonavala are the classic hill escapes for Mumbai and Pune, set on the Sahyadri escarpment of the Western Ghats. Frequently asked questions

Is Mahabaleshwar open in the monsoon?

Yes, but it receives extremely heavy rainfall and many hotels and viewpoints close or reduce services from mid-June to September. Lonavala, on the other hand, is at its best in the monsoon.

When is strawberry season?

Roughly December to April, with the best fruit from January to March. Mapro Garden also holds a strawberry festival around Easter.

Can we start from Mumbai instead of Pune?

Yes, pickup and drop in Mumbai are included. The drive to Mahabaleshwar takes about 6 hours and Lonavala is about 2 hours from Mumbai.

Is this trip suitable for senior citizens?

Yes. Most viewpoints are near parking areas. Pratapgad and Lohagad involve steps and can be skipped or replaced with lighter stops.
