About this Rameswaram & Kanyakumari trip
Rameswaram is one of the four Char Dham and home to the Ramanathaswamy Jyotirlinga, believed to have been installed by Lord Rama. Unlike quick one-night stopovers, this trip gives you two nights on the island: time for the 22 theertham baths and darshan without rushing, the famous 1,200 m third corridor, and a jeep ride to Dhanushkodi — the town lost to the 1964 cyclone — and Arichal Munai, the land's end facing Sri Lanka. You'll see Kothandaramar temple, the floating stones at Panchamukhi Hanuman and the Kalam memorial. On the way south you stop at Tiruchendur, the only one of Murugan's six abodes on the seashore, and finish at Kanyakumari with sunrise, the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, the Thiruvalluvar statue glass bridge and Suchindram's Thanumalayan temple.
Two unhurried nights in Rameswaram with Dhanushkodi, then Tiruchendur and Kanyakumari's Vivekananda Rock.

Frequently asked questions
How does the 22 theertham bath work?
You buy a theertham ticket at the temple; attendants draw water from each of the 22 wells and pour it over you in sequence. It takes about 45 minutes, and you then change into dry clothes before darshan.
Is the dress code strict?
Yes. Ramanathaswamy and Kumari Amman temples expect traditional attire. Shorts, sleeveless tops and jeans are not allowed, and at Kumari Amman men remove their shirts.
Can we go all the way to Arichal Munai?
Yes, the road to Arichal Munai is open in daylight hours. Access is closed in bad weather and after sunset, and you cannot go into the sea there.
Does the Vivekananda Rock ferry run every day?
Usually from about 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but it is suspended in rough seas. Queues are long on weekends, so we go early.
How is this different from your South India Temple Tour?
That tour covers Tirupati, Thanjavur, Srirangam and Madurai with one night each in Rameswaram and Kanyakumari. This one spends more time on the coast — two nights in Rameswaram, Tiruchendur and Suchindram — and suits pilgrims who mainly want Rameswaram.
