About this Wayanad Hills trip

Wayanad sits at 700–2,100 m in the Western Ghats, a district of spice gardens, tea estates and protected forest bordering Bandipur and Nagarhole. You arrive in Kozhikode and climb the nine hairpin bends of the Thamarassery ghat to a rainforest resort near Vythiri — ask for a tree-house upgrade. Days are spent at the Neolithic petroglyphs of Edakkal Caves, Banasura Sagar (India's largest earth dam), Pookode Lake, Soochipara waterfalls and a jeep safari at Muthanga wildlife sanctuary, where elephants, gaur and deer are common sightings. Kerala sadya, Malabar biryani and endless cups of tea complete the picture.

Frequently asked questions

Is Muthanga safari guaranteed?

Safaris are run by the forest department on a first-come basis and may close in peak summer for fire risk. If unavailable, we substitute Tholpetty sanctuary or a Kuruva Island visit.

Is Wayanad safe after the 2024 landslides?

The landslides affected a specific area near Meppadi; the main tourist circuit has reopened. We follow district advisories and will reroute if any area is closed.

Are the Edakkal Caves difficult?

It's a steep 1 km climb with steps and rock ladders. Most healthy adults and children manage it; seniors may prefer to skip.

Can we add Mysuru or Ooty?

Yes. Mysuru is about 3 hours via Bandipur and Ooty about 3.5 hours via Gudalur — we can extend the tour.
