About this Velankanni, Nagore & Nagapattinam trip

The Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health at Velankanni, on the Bay of Bengal, is one of India's most visited Christian shrines, built on the site of Marian apparitions and the rescue of Portuguese sailors from a storm. People of every faith come to light candles, fulfil vows and walk on their knees along the path to the shrine. This four-day trip gives you two nights at Velankanni for Holy Mass, the Shrine Basilica, Our Lady's Tank, the Morning Star church and the offerings museum. A day trip covers the 16th-century Nagore Dargah of Hazrat Syed Shahul Hameed, Nagapattinam's Soundararaja Perumal temple, Sikkal Singaravelar temple and the Danish fort at Tharangambadi (Tranquebar). You return to Chennai via the Nataraja temple at Chidambaram.

Can we reach by train?
