About this Auli Snow & Skiing trip

Auli's open meadows above Joshimath turn into India's best-known ski slopes each winter, with Nanda Devi, Dronagiri and Kamet visible across the valley. This trip follows the Alaknanda up from Rishikesh past the Devprayag and Rudraprayag confluences, then gives you three nights in Auli. You'll have two days of beginner ski lessons with certified instructors and equipment, plus a snow hike towards Gorson Bugyal. In summer the same slopes become green meadows and the package runs as a trekking holiday.

- Drive along the Ganga to Devprayag, where the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda meet

Frequently asked questions

Do I need any ski experience?

No. The orientation is designed for complete beginners. Most guests are sliding and stopping comfortably by the end of day two.

Is snow guaranteed?

Snow cover usually lasts from January to early March, but it depends on the season. If there isn't enough snow for skiing, we refund the ski component or change the dates.

Is the Joshimath–Auli ropeway running?

The Joshimath–Auli gondola has been shut for long periods since the 2023 land-subsidence issues. We travel by road, which is how most visitors reach Auli now.

How cold does it get?

In January and February, nights drop to around −5 to −8°C and days stay close to 0–5°C. The hotels provide heaters, but please pack proper layers.

Is it safe for children?

Yes, for children aged 8 and over, who can join the ski orientation with smaller boots and skis. Younger children can enjoy snow play near the hotel.
