Overview

About this Jaisalmer & Jodhpur trip

Two of Rajasthan's most dramatic cities, joined by a road straight into the Thar. In Jaisalmer you sleep near a fort where some 3,000 people still live inside the walls, wander lanes of honey-coloured havelis carved as finely as lace, and ride camels onto the Sam dunes for sunset, folk music and a night under the stars. Then you return to Jodhpur, where Mehrangarh rises sheer from its rock above a maze of indigo-washed houses.

A living sandstone fort, carved havelis, a night in a Sam dunes camp and Jodhpur's Mehrangarh Fort.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Are desert camps open all year?

Most Sam camps run from October to March. From April to September the heat (often 45°C) closes many camps, so we would replace the camp night with a hotel night and an evening dune visit.

Is the camp tent comfortable?

Yes. Swiss tents have proper beds, attached bathrooms with running water and electricity. Blankets and quilts are provided in winter.

Can we fly into Jaisalmer?

Jaisalmer airport has limited, mostly seasonal flights. Jodhpur has year-round connections, which is why we start and end there.

Is the camel ride safe for children?

Yes. Rides are short and led by a handler on foot. Children under 6 usually ride with a parent; you can choose a camel cart instead.

Can we visit Tanot or Longewala?

Yes, as an add-on day trip from Jaisalmer (about 120 km each way). Indian nationals only beyond certain points; carry ID.
