Kaziranga protects about two-thirds of the world's greater one-horned rhinos, and on a jeep safari through its tall elephant grass you may see dozens in a single morning — alongside wild buffalo, swamp deer, elephants and, if you are lucky, a tiger. This Assam holiday pairs two days in the park with Majuli, the vast river island in the Brahmaputra reached by ferry, home to centuries-old Vaishnavite satras and the mask-makers of Samaguri, and finishes with Guwahati's hilltop Kamakhya temple.

Frequently asked questions

When is Kaziranga open?

The park usually opens on 1 October in a limited way and fully from November, and closes around 30 April or mid-May when the Brahmaputra floods the grasslands. Exact dates are announced by the forest department each year.

How reliable is the Majuli ferry?

Government ferries run several times a day from Nimati Ghat, but timings change with water levels and fog. Winter fog can delay the first ferry; we build buffer time into the plan.

Is the elephant safari included?

No. Elephant safaris in Kaziranga are limited, sold on the spot by the forest department, and their availability changes year to year. We help you book if you wish.

Can we fly out of Jorhat?

Yes. Jorhat has direct flights to Kolkata and Delhi. If flights don't suit, we drive back to Guwahati instead.

Is this trip suitable for seniors?

Yes. Safaris are seated in jeeps and walks in Majuli are on flat village roads. The ferry has steps to board, which the crew will help with.
