About this Puri Jagannath, Konark & Bhubaneswar trip
Puri is one of the Char Dhams, and the Shree Jagannath temple — home of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra — is the centre of Odia life. This four-day trip puts you in a sea-facing hotel in Puri for darshan with a local guide, Mahaprasad at Ananda Bazar (the world's largest temple kitchen) and an evening on the Grand Road where the Rath Yatra chariots roll each summer. You also drive the coastal Marine Drive to the 13th-century Konark Sun Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and have an optional morning at Satapada on Chilika Lake to watch for Irrawaddy dolphins. The last day in Bhubaneswar covers Lingaraj, the Mukteshwar and Rajarani temples, Dhauli and the Udayagiri caves.

Frequently asked questions
Can non-Hindus enter the Jagannath temple?
No. Entry is restricted to Hindus (including Sikh, Jain and Buddhist devotees of Indian origin). Others can view the temple from the Raghunandan Library rooftop nearby. Lingaraj temple in Bhubaneswar has a similar rule and a viewing platform outside.
Is there a dress code at Puri?
Yes. Since 2024 the temple administration requires decent attire — no shorts, half pants, sleeveless clothing or torn jeans. Traditional Indian wear is best.
What is Mahaprasad?
Food cooked in the temple kitchen in earthen pots over wood fires, offered to Lord Jagannath and then sold at Ananda Bazar inside the complex. Eating it there is a big part of the Puri experience.
Can we visit during Rath Yatra?
Yes, but hotels in Puri sell out months in advance and rates double. Crowds on the Grand Road are enormous. We run a dedicated Rath Yatra departure with pre-booked rooms.
Is the sea at Puri safe for swimming?
Currents can be strong. Swim only in patrolled areas near the lifeguards (nolias), and never at night or during rough weather.
