About this Ajmer Sharif & Pushkar trip
Ajmer and Pushkar sit only 15 km apart across the Nag Pahar hills, yet hold two of India's most important shrines of different faiths. At Ajmer Sharif, the dargah of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (Garib Nawaz) draws pilgrims of every religion; you'll enter through the Nizam Gate and Buland Darwaza, see the giant degs used to cook tabarruk, offer a chadar and flowers, and stay for the evening qawwali. You'll also see the Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra mosque and Ana Sagar lake. Over the hill, Pushkar is one of the few places in India with a temple to Lord Brahma, built beside a sacred lake ringed by 52 ghats. Watch the sunset aarti from Gau Ghat, take the ropeway to Savitri Mata temple and wander the bazaar for its famous malpua.

Frequently asked questions
Can non-Muslims visit Ajmer Sharif?
Yes. The dargah welcomes visitors of all faiths. Cover your head, dress modestly and remove footwear at the gate. Bags and cameras may be restricted.
Is Pushkar vegetarian?
Yes. Meat, eggs and alcohol are not permitted in Pushkar town. Restaurants serve vegetarian food only.
What is the 'Pushkar passport'?
Some people at the ghats offer flowers and a puja, then ask for a large donation. If you want a puja, our guide will take you to a recognised priest at an agreed amount; otherwise politely decline.
When is the Urs?
The Urs of Khwaja Garib Nawaz is held from the 1st to the 6th of Rajab in the Islamic calendar, so the Gregorian date moves about 11 days earlier each year. Hotels fill months in advance.
