About this Sabarimala Ayyappa Darshan trip
Sabarimala sits deep inside the Periyar Tiger Reserve and opens only for the Mandala–Makaravilakku season (mid-November to mid-January) and the first five days of each Malayalam month. This four-day package is built for Ayyappa devotees who have observed the 41-day vratham and carry the irumudi kettu. We start at Kochi, take you to Erumeli for the Vavar mosque and Dharma Sastha temple, and on darshan day drive to Nilakkal base camp, where private vehicles must park and KSRTC chain buses run to Pamba. After a dip in the Pamba river you climb about 5 km through Neelimala and Appachimedu to Sannidhanam for darshan via the holy 18 steps. The last day covers Pandalam Valiyakoyikkal temple, where the Thiruvabharanam (sacred ornaments) are kept, and Chengannur Mahadeva temple. We handle the mandatory Sabarimala virtual-queue booking for every pilgrim.
Kochi to Erumeli, Nilakkal and the forest climb from Pamba, with virtual-queue booking and Pandalam palace.

Frequently asked questions
Is virtual-queue booking mandatory?
Yes. During the season every pilgrim needs a virtual-queue slot from the official Sabarimala Online portal, with a photo ID. Spot booking counters exist at Nilakkal and other points but can run out on peak days, so we book as soon as the slots open.
How hard is the climb from Pamba?
It is about 5 km uphill through forest on a paved path, with steep stretches at Neelimala and Appachimedu. Most people take 2–4 hours going up. Cardiac care centres and oxygen parlours are set up along the route during the season.
Can women join this trip?
The temple follows its traditional custom that women aged roughly 10 to 50 do not undertake the pilgrimage, and the Devaswom Board continues to apply it. Girls under 10 and women above 50 are welcome to travel with the group.
What does the 41-day vratham involve?
Devotees traditionally wear the mala, follow celibacy, eat vegetarian food, avoid alcohol and tobacco, and wear black or blue for 41 days before the visit. First-time pilgrims (kanni swamis) are guided by a guru swami.
How long is the darshan queue?
With a virtual-queue slot it is usually 2–6 hours from Pamba; on Mandala Pooja and Makaravilakku days it can be much longer. We plan the climb around your reporting time.
