About this Meghalaya trip
Meghalaya is the Northeast at its most cinematic — clouds drifting below you on the Khasi plateau, waterfalls pouring off cliffs at Sohra, and rivers so clear that boats seem to float on air. This six-day trip includes the 3,500-step trek to the double-decker living root bridge at Nongriat, a boat on the Umngot river at Dawki, the tidy village of Mawlynnong and an evening in Shillong's music-loving Police Bazaar.
Trek to the double-decker root bridge, boat on the clear Umngot at Dawki and stand above Nohkalikai Falls.

Frequently asked questions
How tough is the Nongriat trek?
About 3,500 steep steps down and back up, roughly 4–5 hours round trip. It suits anyone of average fitness. If you'd prefer, we can swap it for the easier Riwai root bridge at Mawlynnong.
When is the Dawki river clear?
From November to April the Umngot is famously transparent. In the monsoon it turns muddy and boating may be suspended.
Do Indians need a permit for Meghalaya?
No Inner Line Permit is needed for tourists in Meghalaya. Carry your photo ID, as hotels and some checkposts ask for it.
Is Meghalaya good with kids?
Yes, for ages 6 and up. Skip the Nongriat trek with younger kids and do the Mawlynnong root bridge and caves instead.
