Overview

About this Char Dham Yatra trip

The Char Dham Yatra takes you to the four holiest shrines of Uttarakhand, in the traditional clockwise order — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath — beginning and ending at Haridwar. Twelve days lets you do it without rushing: two nights each at Barkot and Uttarkashi for the Yamunotri and Gangotri darshans, a night at Kedarnath itself so you can join the evening aarti and an early darshan, and a night at Badrinath beside the Alaknanda. We take care of the mandatory registration, hotels close to each shrine, pure-vegetarian meals and experienced hill drivers. Helicopter tickets to Kedarnath can be booked on request.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is yatra registration mandatory?

Yes. Every pilgrim must register on the Uttarakhand Tourism portal (registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in), and the QR is checked at Sonprayag and other points. We complete it with your Aadhaar details as soon as you book.

How difficult is the Kedarnath trek?

It's 16 km one way from Gaurikund to 3,583 m, usually 6–8 hours uphill. Ponies, palkis and pithus are available. Helicopters fly from Phata, Sersi and Guptkashi and are booked only via the IRCTC HeliYatra portal.

When do the temples open and close?

Yamunotri and Gangotri open on Akshaya Tritiya (late April/May), Kedarnath and Badrinath around the same week. They close for winter between Diwali and Bhai Dooj. The best windows are May–June and mid-September to October.

Is the yatra suitable for senior citizens?

Yes, with a medical check-up. Seniors usually take ponies or palkis at Yamunotri and Kedarnath, or the helicopter. Anyone with heart or breathing conditions should consult a doctor before travel.

What food is available?

Only simple vegetarian food is served along the route, and no alcohol or non-vegetarian food is allowed near the shrines. Our meals are pure-veg and Jain on request.

Should we avoid the monsoon?

July and August bring heavy rain and frequent landslides, so travel is risky and delays are common. We don't recommend the yatra in those months.
