About Maldives

The Maldives is a chain of roughly 1,200 coral islands grouped into 26 atolls, and almost every resort sits on an island of its own. For travellers from Hyderabad it is one of the easiest international beach escapes: a short flight to Malé, a speedboat transfer across the lagoon, and within a few hours of leaving home you are standing on a jetty above water so clear you can watch reef fish beneath your feet.

Our package is built around the South Malé Atoll, close enough to the airport that transfers are by speedboat rather than seaplane. You split your stay between a beach villa and an overwater villa on a full-board plan, which keeps costs predictable on islands where every meal is taken at the resort. Days revolve around the house reef, where turtles, reef sharks and parrotfish are common sights, a picnic on a private sandbank near Maafushi, and a sunset cruise that often turns up spinner dolphins.

The Maldives rewards slowing down. There are no sightseeing checklists here, only the choice between snorkelling, a spa treatment, an afternoon by the infinity pool or simply watching the colour of the lagoon change through the day. It suits honeymooners and anniversary couples above all, but families with children who can swim comfortably will find the shallow lagoons and kids' clubs just as rewarding. Remember that local islands follow Islamic customs, so alcohol is only served at resorts and modest dress is expected whenever you visit Malé or an inhabited island.

Top things to do in Maldives

01

A night in an overwater villa

Wake up above the lagoon, step down your private ladder for a morning swim and watch the sunset from your deck. It is the signature Maldives stay and the highlight of most trips.

02

Snorkelling the house reef

Resort house reefs sit metres from the beach. Expect turtles, blacktip reef sharks, eagle rays and dense schools of reef fish in water that is often 25–30 metres clear.

03

Private sandbank picnic

A speedboat drops you on a strip of white sand near Maafushi with nothing around but water. Lunch, snorkelling gear and a few quiet hours make it a favourite for couples.

04

Sunset dolphin cruise

Traditional dhoni boats head out in the late afternoon when spinner dolphins are most active, often leaping alongside the boat as the sky turns orange.

05

Scuba diving for beginners

Most resorts run Discover Scuba sessions in the lagoon before taking you to a shallow reef, so you can try diving without a prior certification.

06

Spa and candlelit beach dinner

Overwater spa pavilions and private dinners on the sand are the classic Maldivian indulgences, best booked a day or two ahead at the resort.

When to go

Best time

Dry season

November to April

Calm seas, sunshine and the best underwater visibility. Peak demand around Christmas, New Year and Diwali, so book early.

Shoulder months

May and October

A mix of sunny days and short showers, with better resort rates and fewer guests.

Southwest monsoon

June to September

Warm with passing squalls and choppier seas, but the lowest prices of the year and good manta and whale shark sightings in some atolls.

Getting there from Hyderabad

By flight

Direct flights from Hyderabad to Malé take about 2.5 hours when operating; otherwise connect through Bengaluru, Kochi or Mumbai for a total journey of 4–6 hours.

By ferry

From Malé airport, South Malé Atoll resorts are reached by resort speedboat in roughly 20–60 minutes; the resort meets you at the arrivals jetty.

Door-to-door

Flights, transfers and stays booked together

Every package includes airport pickup and drop on the ground.

Insider tips

  • Carry a passport valid for at least six months, a confirmed return ticket and your resort booking; complete the IMUGA traveller declaration online within 96 hours of arrival.
  • Alcohol is available only at resorts, and importing it is prohibited, so do not carry any in your luggage, including duty-free.
  • Use reef-safe sunscreen and a rash guard; the equatorial sun is strong even on cloudy days.
  • Pack light: a soft bag, swimwear, a cover-up for Malé and reef shoes are more useful than formal clothes.
  • Tell the resort about birthdays or anniversaries in advance; many add a cake, room decoration or dinner set-up at no extra cost.

Pack these

  • Swimwear, cover-ups and flip-flops
  • Reef-safe sunscreen
  • Polarised sunglasses and a hat
  • Waterproof phone pouch or action camera
  • Light evening wear for dinners
  • Modest clothing for local island visits
  • Basic medicines including motion-sickness tablets
