About Singapore

Singapore is the easiest first international holiday you can take from Hyderabad. A direct flight of about four and a half hours lands you at Changi, one of the best airports in the world, and from there everything simply works: clean and safe streets, English on every sign, an MRT network that reaches almost every sight, and food for every palate, including plenty of pure-vegetarian and Indian options in Little India and well beyond it.

Our Singapore trips usually spend four nights in the city and balance the famous highlights with time to breathe. You will see the Merlion and the Marina Bay skyline, walk under the glowing Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay and step into the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest conservatories. A full day goes to Sentosa Island for Universal Studios Singapore and the S.E.A. Aquarium, and an evening is set aside for the Night Safari in the Mandai wildlife precinct, where you ride a tram past animals that are active after dark. Before your flight home, Jewel Changi's indoor waterfall is worth arriving early for.

Singapore suits families with children, first-time international travellers, honeymooners on a short break and senior citizens who want comfort without long drives. It is also an easy add-on to Malaysia, since Kuala Lumpur and Genting are a short flight or a comfortable coach ride away. The city is not cheap, but with a good hotel location and a mix of hawker centres and restaurants, it delivers excellent value for the experiences it packs into a few days.

When to go

Best time

Drier months

February to April

The least rainy stretch of the year with sunny days around 31°C; ideal for outdoor sights and Sentosa.

Mid-year

May to September

Hot and humid with brief showers; June school holidays make attractions busier, while the Great Singapore Sale brings shopping deals.

Northeast monsoon

November to January

More frequent afternoon downpours, but Christmas lights on Orchard Road and year-end festivities make it a lively time.

Getting there from Hyderabad

By flight

Direct flights from Hyderabad (HYD) to Singapore Changi take about 4 hours 15 minutes to 4 hours 45 minutes; most are overnight departures that land early in the morning. One-stop options via Chennai, Bengaluru or Kuala Lumpur take 7–10 hours.

By road

If you are combining Malaysia, coaches and cars from Kuala Lumpur reach Singapore in about 5–6 hours including the Johor–Woodlands land border crossing.

Singapore's signature seafood dish, best mopped up with fried mantou buns at the East Coast or Clarke Quay seafood restaurants.

  • Kaya toast and kopi

The classic local breakfast of coconut jam toast, soft-boiled eggs and strong coffee at a Ya Kun or Killiney outlet.

  • Little India vegetarian

South Indian meals, dosas and North Indian thalis at Komala Vilas and Ananda Bhavan feel familiar and are easy on the budget.

  • Laksa

A rich, spicy coconut noodle soup; ask for a vegetarian version at food courts if you avoid seafood.

Insider tips

  • Apply for the Singapore visa at least three to four weeks before travel and submit the free SG Arrival Card online within three days of arrival.
  • Use a contactless debit or credit card directly at MRT gates instead of buying tickets, and keep some cash for hawker stalls.
  • Singapore has strict rules: no chewing gum imports, no eating or drinking on the MRT, and heavy fines for littering or jaywalking.
  • Carry a light umbrella and comfortable walking shoes; sudden showers are common, and most sightseeing involves a lot of walking.
  • Book Universal Studios, Night Safari and Gardens by the Bay tickets in advance for fixed dates, especially during Indian school holidays.

Pack these

  • Light cotton clothes for humid weather
  • A light jacket or sweater for Genting (15–20°C) and chilly malls
  • Comfortable shoes for long theme-park days
  • Compact umbrella for sudden tropical showers
  • Clothing covering shoulders and knees for Batu Caves and mosques
  • UK-style 3-pin plug adapter (Type G)
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses
  • Light cotton clothes — it is humid all year
